Undergraduate Degrees

The Department of Botany and Microbiology has a successful faculty committed to excellence in teaching and research. The faculty provides instruction leading to respected undergraduate and graduate degree programs in both Botany and Microbiology and maintains one of the most highly funded research programs on campus. Many of the staff members have received University awards in recognition of their teaching and research excellence. Department of Botany and Microbiology at Alexandria University offers three majors in Botany, Microbiology and Biotechnology. Students are advised to elect one of many minors such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Zoology or Environmental Sciences to obtain the bachelor degree.

Graduate Studies (M.Sc. and Ph.D.)

The Department has an outstanding research both in areas of basic and applied sciences. These include: plant ecology, wetlands, mycology, environmental stresses, secondary metabolite production, virology and plant diseases, biopolymers, biodegradation and bioremediation, molecular microbiology and biotechnology, medicinal plants, plant cytogenetic, physiology of Algae, plant taxonomy and paleontology. Research students are required to pursue Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees through required course work and practical research.
