Since the early years, of foundation the department established a long-term multidisciplinary program for the investigation of the marine and inland aquatic Environments in Egypt Alexandria. 
The research plan focus on the following areas:- 

• The coastal zone around the city of Alexandria.
• The Egyptian Mediterranean waters.
• Coastal lagoons of the Nile Delta and the inland lakes.
• The River Nile and its estuaries.
• The Suez Canal.
• The Red Sea
